1st International Printmaking Conference

“From Tradition to Transition: Aspects and Technologies of printmaking from the past to present day” is the title of the 1st international printmaking conference to take place from the 22 until the 24 of November 2017 in Nicosia. The conference will be coordinated and co-organized by the Cypriot Printmakers’ Association and the Greek Printmakers’ Association.

The International Printmaking Conference #1CY-GR aspires to become established as a permanent institution. It intends to demonstrate the evolution of the engraving and printmaking art through time in both the European and International area as well as to promote the contemporary artistic and educational role of printmaking as a medium of creative expression. Further, the conference aims to encourage scientific research into the history of engraving and printmaking on the one hand, and contemporary visual art trends and how printmaking relates to them on the other hand. The conference’s premises, namely the newly founded, notable space of the Leventis Gallery, will significantly enhance the organizers’ scientific targets and, through parallel educational activities for both adults and children, bring out its educational character.

The conference will feature presentations by recognized visual artists-printmakers and art historians of an international standing such as Prof. Stephen Hoskins from England; Prof. Kong Guoqiao at the China Academy of Art, printmaker-artist Ananda Moy Banerjee from India; Myrto Hatzaki, art historian and Curator of the Leventis Gallery Paris Collection; Prof. Michalis Arfaras, of the Athens School of Fine Arts School, Prof. Manolis Yannadakis, of the Thessaloniki School of Fine Arts and Yiannis Bolis, art historian and curator at the State Museum of Contemporary Art, from Greece; the printmaker Orit Hofshi and Irena Gordon, Curator of the Jerusalem Print Workshop from Israel; Marta Anna Raczek-Karcz art critic, theoretician, curator from Poland, and finally professor Costas Mantzalos from Cyprus.

The Conference is sponsored by the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the Cyprus Cooperative Bank. It is hosted by A.G. Leventis Gallery and supported by the University of Cyprus and Confucius Institute. Media sponsor: KATHIMERINI daily.
