We are happy to invite you, at the opening of the 5th International Conference on Semiotics of Culture and Visual Communication (ICSCVC 2024), scheduled to take place from 26th to 28th of June 2024 at Cyprus University of Technology, exploring the subject of ‘‘Semiotics of Otherness’’ and ‘‘Nature as the Other: Empathy, Arts & Sustainability’’.
This year the Cyprus Semiotics Circle and the Semiotics and Visual Communication Research Lab (Department of Multimedia and Graphic Arts, Cyprus University of Technology) has joined forces with the transnational cooperation project EMPACT/Empathy and Sustainability, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union. This partnership brought together two dynamic entities committed to fostering interdisciplinary dialogue in the field of semiotics, cultural studies, visual communication, philosophy, psychology and sustainability studies. Under this scope, and thematic, we have accepted 68 peered review presentations from 15 countries in various sub-categories that investigate the construction of “the other” in different sociopolitical, cultural and audiovisual contexts.
